I had a great time designing and animating these little moving characters for a banner campaign for Belgian Rail “Go Pass". Artwork used in interactive Flash banners (Euro RSCG)
De Slimste Mens had a graphic update this season designed by HandMade Monsters.
After De Pappenheimers, De Laatste Show and Alles uit De Kast, this was my fourth major design job for Belgian production company Woestijnvis.
Package included logo and bumpers in hand lettering, backgrounds and score overlays.
Just finished all design work for the Literaire Lente, a Belgian book promotion event.
The design package included the logo, posters, banners, ads and brochures (boek.be)
Great StuffMakers* news: De Wilde Zwanen got nominated for the ESTA Award for best audio book in the Netherlands. The second book/cd in the Heerlijk Hoorspel series got listed as one of 15 titles competing for the award.
Two other Geluidshuis titles were listed, too. Mieke Maaike's Obscene Kapsalon and Zes Grimmige Sprookjes voor Verdorven Kinderen are both audio adaptations from classic Flemish literature by Louis Paul Boon. Grimmige Sprookjes even reached the final shortlist.
Both cd's come in deluxe hardcovers designed by HandMade Monsters, and are for a great part done in hand lettering with a felt tip pen.
I have been working franticly on a new book, due out next fall. A new StuffMakers* audio play in Flemish,De Vlo en de Professor tells the story of a balloon flyer who loses everything (twice) and ends up in the gutter, getting one (1) flea. Together they rise up to success, but when they decide to go to the US, their plane crashes on an island full of wild women hungry for entertainment. Loosely based on the H.C. Andersen story of the same title, the cd again promises plenty of laughs for kids and adults alike, and again comes in a hardcover picture book with plenty of artwork illustrating the story.
We are exploring the possibility of an English language version of the cd's. Hopefully that will happen, eventually.
It has been a while since the last photo update, but De Mestkever is still active on Facebook. The response to the photo's has been great. Now with over 500 friends, he's a lot more popular than his friend De Strontvlieg. And a lot more popular than myself, too…
Feel free to send him your friend request,
he'll be happy to accept.
And let's hope he'll find some time to upload a few new pictures from his archive.
Also, while you're there, feel free to look at the StuffMakers Facebook page for irregular updates.
My Boekenbeurs (Belgian Book Fair) commercial from last fall is Pick of the Month on the new IdN DVD. International Designers Network vol.16.1, the Craft Issue has a short piece on the campaign, "Characters in search of an Author", and plenty of pictures to illustrate the artwork from the project.
I am honored to have been on stage at the Pictoplasma Conference 2009: Prepare for Pictopia, last March in Berlin. The conference again welcomed great speakers (Friends With You, Boris Hoppek, James Jarvis, W+K Tokyo Lab and David OReilly to name just a few…), and again offered a great excuse to have beers with my personal heroes.
So thank you Lars and Peter, for organizing this great gathering. And a special thank you to Fons Schiedon for putting me on stage.

Also, I had a great time presenting my work in Z33, Hasselt Belgium last February, as part of the A-Z Lezingen lectures. Thank you Johan Vandebosch for inviting me.
